Change is ordinary, but living through it can be difficult to make sense of. Sometimes a different image or a better question helps us look again. That is the spirit of this website: a simple ritual, a few words to consider, and room for your own response.

You can approach the I Ching through a spiritual tradition, philosophical curiosity, or an interest in reflective writing. This website does not ask you to adopt a belief. It also does not speak on behalf of a Buddhist institution, a religious teacher, or a particular lineage of I Ching practice.

What a reading does here.

The coin ritual selects a pattern. The website shows the fixed reflection associated with that pattern. Your question is there to focus your attention; it does not change the text or the random cast.

Our aim is to make space for discernment, not to replace it. You are free to find something meaningful, disagree with an interpretation, or leave a reading aside. No outcome is promised by a hexagram.

Who makes KarmaAwake?

KarmaAwake is an independently operated website with an editorial focus on clear explanations, usable tools, and personal reflection. The name on our articles identifies the website responsible for the material; it does not imply a scholarly credential or religious authority.

Our tools perform defined calculations. Our English reflections are original commentary, and our pages identify traditional structures and reference sources separately. Contact us or suggest a correction.

Chinese zodiac dates

The zodiac calculator uses Chinese New Year boundaries from the Hong Kong Observatory’s Gregorian–lunar calendar tables. We store year boundaries with their source and retrieval date so the calculator works without sending your birth date anywhere. The year element describes the heavenly-stem cycle; it is not a BaZi day master. The animal reflections are our own writing, not personality assessments.

Sources & editorial boundaries.

The 64 hexagram numbers follow the traditional King Wen sequence. Line diagrams combine the eight trigrams and are stored from bottom to top. English names are descriptive labels; spelling and naming vary across editions.

The reflections, questions, theme labels, and practical exercises on KarmaAwake are original modern editorial writing. We do not present them as translations of the ancient text. Our six changing-line prompts are general prompts for line positions, not the 384 individual line passages found in a full edition of the I Ching.
